After obtaining a BA in Economics & Physics at Columbia University and an MSc in Management at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Laurel took up a role as a consultant with McKinsey & Co. until 1989, when she did a stint of investment banking at Morgan Stanley. Since then she has held a number of senior full time positions and directorships in both industry and finance including Prudential, Lloyds TSB Group and Marks & Spencer. Laurel was appointed to the Board of C. Hoare & Co. on 1st January 2011; she is also a member of the Audit & Compliance Committee and the Remuneration Committee.
Laurel continues to hold a number of other non-executive appointments, including Non-Executive Director, Bank of Ireland UK plc, Non-Executive Director, BBA LIBOR Ltd. and Non-Executive Director, Findel plc. Previously she has been a Non-Executive Director of the Bank of England, where she also acted as a Senior Advisor. She is currently a Director or Trustee for a number of music-related charities, including the Royal Academy of Music.
