Careers Morning

20th Jun 2014
Careers day attendees at Hoare's Bank

The bank welcomed students from Benenden School and Dulwich College to a careers' morning at our Fleet Street branch recently. Younger members of staff were given the opportunity to present to an inquisitive group of students on a variety of subjects.

The morning started with the principles of banking where they worked on a case study entitled "Would you lend to this man?". Then followed a discussion on financial fraud where the group were shown fake bank notes and cheques. Afterwards they worked in teams in an investment game where they were confronted with a series of economic data which they had to apply to their trading tactics. After the game, Annamaria Koerling and Samuel Lush gave a talk on behavioural finance entitled 'Greed, Fear and Folly: The Common Pitfalls of Investing".

Many of the students drew on the theories proposed in the behavioural finance talk to help understand their decisions in the Investment game and an enthusiastic discussion ensued! The day concluded with an address by Alexander Hoare and then an informal 'Meet the Managers' session over a sandwich lunch. Many of the students have referenced their experience of the day in their university applications and when applying for other internships. If any customers would like to propose a school that they are affiliated with for a future Careers' Day, please contact Samuel Lush.
